RULES

NO NOMINATIONS FOR AGED HORSES ACCEPTED IN 2019 unless they are sired by the new stallions enrolled in 2019

As the nominations and entries increase, the payout will increase at the Pink Buckle Barrel Race in future years. For 2019, there is a guaranteed $1.5 Million Dollar Payout!! Our goals are to write big checks to entrants, stallion owners and breeders! We are creating an event that will be like no other.

The Futurity will be the richest in the world! Guaranteed payout of $900,000  ($650k Futurity + $200k 2D Futurity + $50k Amateur Futurity) is up for grabs. The Pink Buckle Barrel Race will feature a $50,000 Amateur Futurity. Easily, the richest race for amateur futurity riders (must have current AQHA Amateur card). Futurity contestants have the option to roll their times to the Open. The Open has $600,000 Guaranteed Payout w/ Equal Payout of $150,000 for each ‘D’.

Futurity Rules

1. The Futurity is open to horse that are 4 or 5 yrs old. Horses may not have reached the age of 6 by the time of the Futurity. Horses must be registered and must be sired by the current Pink Buckle Stallions, be a Pink Buckle Stallion or be sired by a Pink Buckle stallion that was previously paid into the Pink Buckle in the year the horse was conceived.

2. To be eligible for the Futurity, the horse must NEVER have competed in any barrel race prior to the start of their declared futurity year. To do so means to forfeit any and all fees paid and elimination from the futurity.

3. All riders must be designated when entries are due. Rider changes after that date will be $75 charge.

4. Horses must be checked in prior to running. Owners or riders must be present for awards presentation.

5. There will be two go-rounds and an average. Total times of the 2 rounds will determine the winners.

6. Substitutions are allowed only due to illness, injury or death of nominated horse. A vet’s affidavit of proof must accompany substitutions along with $75 fee. The necessary papers on the horse to being substituted must be provided and accompany the change fee ($75). Any substituted horse will be ridden by the originally nominated rider or owned by the original owner and must be sired by a Pink Buckle stallion. No exceptions. All substitutions must be completed before the close of check-in. There are no ‘buy-outs’.

7. Nomination Fee must be rec’d before race entries are due.

8. Late entries and nominations will be accepted up until race check in (10/9/19). You will be last in the draw. 

Late Entry Fees are: $1000 Open 4D, $1000 Futurity, $500 Amateur Futurity + Nomination Fee $200 cash due on site.

9. No refunds in any case.

10. A photocopy of the front and back of horse’s registration papers must accompany entry. Actual papers showing current owner must be provided at check-in. Checks will be written to owner as shown on registration papers.

11. Horses staying onsite must be stalled at the Lazy E. Current Health (within 30 days) & Coggins are required.

12. Dress Code: long sleeve shirts, cowboy hat or helmet, western boots.

13. Amateur Futurity is for those that have applied and rec’d their AQHA Amateur card. Must go to AQHA website and fill out the application to obtain your AQHA Amateur card and send the copy of card with entry. 

AQHA definition states that contestant has NOT within the previous three years:

  • Shown, judged, trained or assisted in training a horse(whether or not a registered American Quarter Horse) owned by someone other than myself or an immediate family member for remuneration.
  • Instructed another person in riding, driving, training or showing a horse for remuneration.
  • Judged a horse show for remuneration or been an approved horse show judge of any kind (4-H,other breed, open show).
  • Held a membership in a professional organization (Women’s Professional Rodeo Assoc) and competed professionally in the events intended to compete in as an AQHA-approved Amateur.

If you are under 18 and have a current AQHA Youth card, the Pink Buckle office will need to verify that you fit the AQHA Amateur classification.

14. All decisions made by the Pink Buckle are final – we reserve the right to refuse entry to any horse or individual. Any rules herewith can be changed, added to, or denied at the discretion of Pink Buckle LLC.  Pink Buckle LLC will have the final word in interpreting or supplementing the rules and conditions of the Futurity if the need arises.

Barrel Race:

-Barrel race is a timed event, using brightly colored 55 gallon steel drums, with both ends of the barrel enclosed.
-No rubber or plastic barrels or barrel pads used.
-One horse in the arena during the barrel race without exception.
-Starting gate or gates will remain the same throughout the entire futurity go-rounds.
-The start and finish line and the position of the barrels must be permanently marked for the entire futurity go-rounds.
-The horse must enter the arena in forward motion and continue in forward motion. He may be required to run in and out of the arena only when an acceptable centrally located gate or gates safely permits. Horse cannot make a circle in the area prior to the timer.
-A contestant cannot train or circle during competition. No more than one circle on each barrel while competing. 

-No stopping or whipping a horse in the alley upon completion of the run. The alley belongs to the next contestant.
-Any time contestant crosses the starting line, time will begin.
-Contestant will be assessed a five second penalty for knocking over a barrel. Touching a barrel is permitted.
-Should barrel be knocked over and it sets up on opposite end, the five second penalty will be assessed.
-During competition if barrel is moved off marker, judge must oversee re-setting downed barrel correctly. 

-Reruns shall be given if a timer fails to work or if barrels are not placed properly on markers. No penalties will carry over to rerun. Contestant shall be given the choice to rerun immediately or at the end of the class.

DISQUALIFICATION 

Contestant will be disqualified for not being ready to contest when there name is called. Contestant will be called three times by announcer and if they to not present themselves to complete in the order originally drawn, they will be disqualified. Contestant will be disqualified for missing the pattern. Contestant will be disqualified if run is made out of designated order or until signal is give that the arena is clear.

Sportsmanship Guidelines:

Zero tolerance for mistreatment of horses. Mistreatment includes but not limited to excessive jerking, spurring, whipping, slapping, abuse with any device, or any other act intended to cause trauma or injury to horse. Contestant will be disqualified.

Misconduct or abusive comments spoken to any contestant, spectator, staff member or volunteer will result in immediate contestant disqualification and no refund of any fees. Contestants are also responsible for traveling companions and family members.  

Credit/Refunds/Substitutions/Payment Methods: All applicable fees must be paid in full in order to run at the Pink Buckle Barrel Race. If you have a paid entry and choose to sell said horse before the futurity, the entry can be transferred to a new eligible owner for a $75 change fee. In the event of the death of a paid entry, the owner will be allowed to substitute another NOMINATED eligible horse in its place for a $75 change fee. There will be no refunds. Payments can be made by check or credit card.

A 3% Convenience Fee will be charged to all credit card transactions.

$50 fee for Returned Checks or Declined Credit Cards.

Open 4D Rules

Equal payout across the ‘D’s’ in the Open 4D will ensure that all skill levels of barrel racers have a chance to go home with huge checks.

1. The Open 4D is for horses of any age. Horses must be registered and must be sired by the current Pink Buckle Stallions, be a Pink Buckle Stallion or be sired by a Pink Buckle stallion that was previously paid into the Pink Buckle in the year the horse was conceived.

2. The Open 4D will be 1/2 sec splits and equal payout.

3. All riders must be designated when entries are du). Rider changes after that date will be $75 charge.
